Course Description: Stress is a part of life, and massage therapists are frequently called in as the first line of defense against it. This course discusses the difference between daily life stressors and chronic stress, what chronic stress does to our bodies and health, and ways to prevent and cope with it. This course also demonstrates how therapists can keep their clients’ stress issues from infiltrating their own lives. Complete with charts and relatable situations, this course is relevant for anyone who has ever been stressed out. It’s a must-have for any licensed massage therapist who works hard to make this world a happier, less stressful place.
Goal: The goal of this course is to inform the reader about the differences between daily life stress and chronic stress, the causes of chronic stress and practical ways to cope with existing stressors, as well as prevention techniques for avoiding stress overload. The course approaches this subject from the standpoint that massage not only helps combat stressful thoughts and actions, but is widely accepted by the medical community as a viable, prudent treatment option. There are also techniques listed to help licensed massage therapists avoid absorbing the negative energy and stressful thoughts that their clients bring to them.
Upon completion of this course, the reader will be able to master the following objectives with a minimum of 70% accuracy:
Define the following words:
-List the differences between stress and chronic stress
-Identify the body organs that are most influenced by stress
-Compare and contrast the reactions of the body to stress vs. chronic stress
-Describe the characteristics of stress-induced aches, pains and illnesses
-Define, compare, and contrast the following nervous systems:
-List diseases that are common to chronic stress sufferers
-Describe the causes of chronic stress
-Articulate the changes in life dynamics when chronic stress is present in one or more family members
-Describe viable massage treatment options to help alleviate, and hopefully eliminate, stress
