    • Course Description

Course Description: This course introduces Communicable Diseases, their causes and effects, the way they spread, and what kind of risks they pose for people in the massage and bodywork field. It’s a fact; people in the field of healthcare have many opportunities to be exposed to these disease-causing parasites simply because we do what we do.

Why do we need to know about communicable diseases? Although we don’t regularly perform the tasks that doctors and nurses do, we are continually dealing with the general public. Just that fact alone means that we are exposed to all of the maladies that our clients bring in the door. We are responsible for keeping ourselves, our families, and our clients safe by ensuring that we don’t unknowingly spread infectious diseases that we may have come in contact with.
In this course, we will discuss communicable and infectious diseases. There is also information specific to Influenza, HIV/AIDS, and CoVID-19. We will compare and contrast the two and discover ways to maintain our own safety without making our clients feel uncomfortable. If we are aware of the precautions that can be taken and actually take them, we can provide a safe, nurturing environment for people to enjoy.

Goal: Upon completing this course, students will be able to identify the different types of communicable disease, their causes and effects, and the risks these diseases pose to practitioners in the massage and bodywork field.
