Course Description: This course is all about sports, their injuries, and various treatment options for those injuries. It goes into the characteristics of each injury and identifies the physical involvement of the athlete. Therapists will discover which methods are appropriate for specific injuries and conditions, as well as contraindications for sports massage. There are sample routines and stretches that can easily be incorporated into any session.
Goal: To learn about all aspects of sports massage, its benefits and contraindications, and who uses it.
Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to master the following objectives with a minimum of 70% accuracy:Define “sports massage.”List the four types of sports massage.Describe events where sports massage would be appropriateMatch which injuries correspond to specific body partsDefine different injuries, what they are, and which sports they are specific toList the three grades of tears and the characteristics of each.Describe sports massage techniques that are beneficial to specific sports injuriesList the contraindications for sports massage.Identify courses that are mandatory for a sports massage certification program.
