    • Course Description

      Course Description: This course discusses all aspects of sciatica from its causes to possible treatment plans and ways that massage therapists can help to stabilize pain spikes. Sciatica pain is very common; many people seek pain relief from a variety of sources, including massage therapy. The course offers up some scenarios and some routines that can easily be incorporated into any routine. Whether you have a lot of experience or are a novice, this course is a great way to explore different ways of breaking the pain cycle for your clients.

      Goal: To learn what sciatica is, what the symptoms are, and which techniques are best suited to providing and maintaining pain control.

    • Course Objectives

      Objectives: Upon course completion, the student will be able to master the following objectives with a minimum of 70% accuracy:

      Compare and contrast the different definitions of sciatica

      Define the sciatic nerve

      Identify the location of the sciatic nerve in the body

      Describe the function of the sciatic nerve and its affects on the body

      List the muscles that are directly affected by sciatica, their innervation sites and their functions

      Define the different muscles directly affected by sciatica

      Describe how these muscles affect our daily movements, what they do, and how they work

      List the possible causes of sciatica and their definitions

      Identify various complaints and possible treatment options

      Describe massage therapy techniques that can be employed to eliminate sciatica pain

      Define terms that are commonly used when discussing sciatica.

      ---Louisiana Licensed Massage Therapists- We submit credit at least once a week to your Board for approved courses. Any courses taken that are not approved by LA will not be submitted.       ---Be sure to check your state and national organizations for information about renewal.

      ---For all states, you should search specifically for courses that you know are accepted for your state. This includes, but not limited to New York, North Dakota, Louisiana and Texas.
