Course Description: This is an introductory overview of what ringworm is, how it is treated, and its implications for healthcare professionals. The course is intended to inform you and give insight. Ringworm is a rather uncomfortable subject to talk about, as having it makes one scratch in public venues. You may be lucky enough to never have anyone on your table that has it. But, knowing what it is and how it spreads goes a long way in keeping you and your clients safe from this little nuisance.
Goal: To learn what ringworm is, what causes it, how it is treated, and how it impacts therapists in massage therapy.
Objectives: Upon completion of this course the student will be able to master the following objectives with a minimum of 70% accuracy:
Compare and contrast viral vs. bacterial fungi
List the Latin names for ringworm
Describe the 3 different types of athlete’s foot
Identify the different types of ringworm and where they are most commonly found on the body
Differentiate between symptoms of different ringworm types
Discuss when it is appropriate to seek medical care
List the characteristics of each ringworm type
List common medications used to treat ringworm
Compare and contrast the causes and treatments for ringworm types
