Course Description: This course examines pregnancy from conception to birth, and how massage therapist can be a tremendous benefit for both the mother and her unborn baby. It covers the pressure points and aromatherapies that are dangerous to an expectant mother. Complete with sample routine and bolstering techniques, Pregnancy Massage is a fabulous tool for massage therapists who work with pregnant mothers.
Goal: To learn about the different stages of pregnancy, from conception to delivery, and strategies that massage therapists can use to make motherhood a more healthy and comfortable experience for both mother and unborn child.
Objectives: Upon course completion, the student will be able to master the following objectives with a minimum of 70% accuracy:
Define pregnancy, or pre-natal, massage
List optimal goals for pregnancy massage
Characterize the first signs and symptoms of pregnancy
List the different types of pregnancy tests available
Describe the physical changes to the mother’s body during pregnancy
Compare and contrast the 3 trimesters of pregnancy
Describe the physical changes to the baby as it develops throughout all 3 trimesters
Identify possible problems for both mother and baby
Describe how to approach the delicate issues of pregnancy and its circumstances with your clients
List the dangers to the unborn fetus as a result of the mother not properly caring for herself during and immediately after pregnancy
Describe the proper bolstering techniques for pregnancy massage
List and explain the 7 stages of grief
Describe the issues that should not be discussed with pregnant mothers
Define terms that will be used throughout the pregnancy
Describe why pregnant women should not lay flat on their backs for massage
Compare and contrast pregnancy massage techniques versus traditional massage techniques
Identify body parts and reflex points that should never be used on a pregnant mother
Identify behaviors that could result in either miscarriage or harm to the baby.

---Louisiana Licensed Massage Therapists- We submit credit at least once a week to your Board for approved courses. Any courses taken that are not approved by LA will not be submitted. For a list of approved courses please go to our Louisiana page at www.cemassage.com/LA. The link to our states page is on the bottom of this site.
