    • Course Description

      Course Description: This is an introductory course about the lymphatic system, what it does, what can go wrong with it, and the role of massage therapy in working with it. The immune system is the primary defense system that keeps us well by fighting off foreign pathogens that can be harmful to us. Whether you are an expert in lymphatic drainage or are brand new to the massage field, this course will help every therapist who wants to improve the health of their clients.

      Goal: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to define what the lymphatic system does, in conjunction with our immune system, and list various routines and treatment options for massage therapists and their clients.

    • Course Objectives


      Upon completion of this course, students will be able to master the following objectives with a minimum of 70% accuracy:

      Label the primary organs of the lymphatic system

      Identify the primary lymph nodes

      Differentiate between lymph nodes and vessels

      List the functions of the lymphatic system

      Describe the different cells that compose the immune system

      Compare and contrast the immune and lymphatic systems

      Define the different types of immunity in human anatomy

      Describe the differences and similarities between internal and external defenses

      List the different functions of white blood cells

      Label the following parts of the lymphatic system:


      --Lymph vessel







      Identify the lymph nodes of the following body regions:

      --Head and neck

      --Upper torso, upper extremities

      --Lower torso, lower extremities

      --Intestinal trunk

      Define Peyer’s Patches

      Label the lymphatics of the arm

      Describe viable routine and routine options for massage therapists to enhance lymph movement

      Identify the 4 main contraindications for massage
